Road Racing: Nice Change on a Nice Day

Filed under: The Disciple Blogs — Disciple of INDYCAR @ 1:20 pm

Watkins Glen.  Pretty good event except for the keystone kops shenanigans with fewer than 20 laps to go.  The odd thing is that you expect strange mistakes from what some like to refer to as ‘wankers,’ but there were some big names up front.

It is precisely that kind of nonsense that will help keep Indy Racing in its niche.  Other than Wimbledon coverage, the motor sports competition calendar on television was clear.  NASCAR played to a not quite so full Daytona audience Saturday night and F-1 ran in Europe, where the tape delay ended before the Indy race.

Best part for me was seeing teams not in the ‘big three’ in positions 1 and 2.

Ryan Hunter-Reay and Darren Manning.  Cool!

Anyway, back to the race.  Watkins Glen is a nearly perfect natural terrain road course.  It beats the street circuits any day.  If we have to have road courses…make it more of those.  The crowd was pretty good as well.

Next stop:  Nashville.  Concrete.  Oval.  Hopefully the group will drive sensibly and not make themselves look foolish, as has been the case at parts of Richmond and Watkins Glen.
