43 More Reasons to Enjoy The Month of May

Filed under: The Disciple Blogs — Disciple of INDYCAR @ 11:52 am

The Indianapolis 500 will be here relatively soon, and the field is looking to be quite interesting this year. I suspect we will see some recent favorites give it a go again, including Scott Sharp, perhaps Bryan Herta, and others. The big news yesterday was an announcement that Richard Petty, seven-time NASCAR champions and driver of that legendary #43, has teamed up with John Andretti and Dryer & Reinbold to field a sponsored (Window World) open wheel version of the 43 in the 500. logo_43_2Petty has never participated in the 500 as an owner or a driver, and he seems very excited about it. It will be fun to watch the Petty Blue/Day-Glo Red colors.

My only wish is that John Andretti would serve a role other than driver. He is a bit long in the tooth and, at various times over the past two years, has nearly taken out members of his family and others while chicaning inconsistently out there on the oval. pettyNot that having multiple Andrettis in the race is bad; far from it. I would much rather see a driver still on the way up (Anthony Foyt IV, for example) than one on the other side of what has been a really nice career.

Since October or November of last year, the idiot hypocrite critics of everything Indy (those who say they hate it and don’t watch any of it but continuously discuss it anyway) have again wondered aloud whether there would be 33. As usual, they will eventually look stupid. My only concern is the availability of Dallaras. There is no logical reason why there cannot be as many as people need.

Here is hoping we get the April showers in April and the May flowers in May. I can hardly wait.
