Cheers! Bottoms Up…

The good news just keeps on arriving where Indy Car is concerned. Since, oh, June 1, 2008 the idiots have been hysterically yammering about what they feel is a possibility there will not be 33 in the field at Indy in 2009. They will, of course, be proven incorrect again this year, as always.

What is really interesting is who is actually showing up. We have already heard about the Petty/Andretti/D & R linkage, and this week Scott Sharp and his sponsor Patron announced they will join the Indy fun as part of Panther.

75938110DI010_FIRESTONE_INDThis one is particularly sweet. When Scott and his sponsor left, there was seemingly a lot of underlying political ill will among many folks, including Rahal. I guess Patron is doing OK in ALMS because they have won, but I cannot help but wonder how ALMS is doing. Scott was Indy racing’s iron man for years, and although his career is in the sunset stage he will be back where he belongs, if only for one race.

It is also nice to have a quality sponsor like Patron. They did the hospitality thing better than about anyone, and their paint jobs were spectacular.

I would really like to see Panther win some races this year, and the 500 would be fabulous.

Welcome back, Scott….it’s good to see you again.

  1. Panther has a scary-good lineup for Indy this year. Sharp has always had a good grip on Indy (unless Indy has no grip…see 2003), and Wheldon already has a Baby Borg on his shelf. Panther was always good with Hornish and might’ve won but for bad luck, and Vitor was right there at the end last year. My early dark horse for the 500 has to be either the 4 or the 16 car.

  3. It’s great to see Scott Back. Perhaps he and his sponsor Patron will feel they’ve missed something being away from Indy.

The Panther organization would be an excellent platform to launch a full-time Indy Car effort. And Scott’s team mate would be no slouch..

  4. Great post again Defender. Scott Sharp is exactly what this series needs. He is my hero.
