Employment Suggestion for KV Racing Technologies

Filed under: The Disciple Blogs — Disciple of INDYCAR @ 10:05 am

Here is a better idea for Jimmy and Kevin and KV Racing Technologies if they want a proven winner to help them try and win races right now instead of Paul Tracy: Buddy Rice.

Buddy Rice Smooches the Borg Underneath Paul Tracy's Likeness

Reasons: Tracy is 40 and past his prime. I am aware bringing him into the series will shut the yaps of more than one cart enthusiast. Yes, he was the biggest remaining name in the failed series. Yes, the cart-centric press corps would love it, if only because of the potential controversy. My biggest fear is the kind of fear you get when you are trying to navigate the streets of any city in Florida by car where they let 85 year old men with glasses that look like space helmet shields drive. You could easily get taken out by an old man.

Buddy Rice is a better choice because he is a recent Indianapolis 500 winner. Despite the fact Tracy almost won the 500 in 2002 (his image, like actual race winners, is permanently affixed on the Borg Warner between the legs of the guy holding the flag at the top of the trophy). He came up through the cart feeder system. He performs well in good equipment. He is American. His goofy choices in headwear are oddly appealing.

It is rumored that the announcement of Tracy as a driver for KV is all but a formality. I wish they would reconsider. Buddy Rice would be a much better choice to give them what they are after.

  1. Sorry Defender but I disagree. Rice did win the Indy 500 in 2004 but that race was quite the fiasco. The race started over 2 hours late, was stopped twice due to rain, red flagged once, and was shortened 20 laps. He didn’t dominate this race and kick everybody’s butt. His win at the 500 is like Franchitti’s and Brack’s win. Luck. I don’t argue that Tracy is over the hill and over rated but Rice wouldn’t do any better.

  2. I agree with Brad. He has does nothing since then and likely never will. On top of that, I think Paul Tracy does more as a driver even though he is Canadian then Buddy Rice does as an American. And most likely, there is some Canadian sponsorship on board for PT which wouldn’t transfer to Buddy Rice.

  3. I didn’t know MONSTER Energy Drink was Canadian (that is the rumored main part of PT’s $$$)??? Buddy Rice also has some support from Monster rival… Red Bull.

However I agree with Matt & Brad… Buddy’s inconsistent driving would counter Paul’s age. Would like to see BOTH, but Tracy’s record as a driver trumps Buddy’s (even if its from a series you don’t like)

  4. FINALLY, someone that agrees with me. Rice is the most under-rated driver in Indycar. I would like to see him at Vision or even Panther. Until then I’ll be on the Wheldon Wagon. Buddy also comes at around 1/3 of the price of Tracy.

  5. Buddy has not won a race in the past 69 races, in fact he has only won 3 races out of the 97 he has competed in, his best finish in 2008 was a 4th place in Watkins Glen, Paul Tracy did that in the only race he ran during 2008, and that was in a Vision car, That team “Vision” had such great results with their drivers on the Road & Street Courses, AJ IV. 11, 19, 18, 12, 20,10, 17, Mr. Ed finished, 18, 17, 15, 13, 23, 14, 20, yet Tracy ran 1 race and finished 4th.

Buddy learned racing on the Street & Road courses, as far as Money paid for a drivers services, Buddy made a boat load of $$ driving the past 2 years for D&R, a driver can live off a Indy Victory only so long, IMO Buddy has milked that win for all he could, and I don’t blame him, I would have done the same, Racing at Mid Ohio last year Buddy was one of the fastest in practice, yet qualifying and racing he was an also ran, he did ride around long enough in many races last year that he did get a few top 10 finishes,

I do give Buddy credit on one thing, he wasted many many $$ he could have received from his 500 victory by dressing the way he does, I really can’t say I have ever seen him at the track when he looked like a clean cut guy, he always looked like a bum, compared to many of the other drivers, RHR does clean himself up when he is out of his drivers suit, as does Briscoe, Castroneves, Manning, Wheldon, these guys are always presentable.

I may be old fashioned, that picture Defender placed here with Buddy and the trophy looks like hell.

  6. Buddy deserves a drive, more so than an over-aged Cart geezer. Buddy has one of the traits that most drivers don’t have these days. PERSONALITY! He isn’t straight-laced, buttoned up sponsor monkey. I rather like the picture.

  7. …& the “over-aged CART geezer” is a straight laced, buttoned up sponsor monkey??? Send an EM to Sebastian Boudais @ Toro Rosso F1… I’m sure he’ll get a chuckle out of your views! As for personality… I think PT’s got that covered as well. How many “boring” drivers do you know that use the Chrome Horn, dress up like Capt. Quebec, & flip pi$$ed-off French Canadians?

Nice that you think 40 year old is a “geezer” compared to 33 year old Buddy Rice… try looking up other 40 year old drivers & what they have accomplished. Paul Tracy also has won a helluva lot more races than Buddy. Guys that are now running in the IRL… Paul beat them (more than Buddy…)

  8. I wasn’t saying that Paul wasn’t. But is you read before you type you’d see that I was comparing Buddy to Hunter-Reay, Manning, and the Penske boys. On the subject of Bourdais I would love to chat. He is my all-time favorite driver and the only talent in the Champ Car field in it’s closing years.
