And the 2009 Pace Car Driver Is…

Filed under: The Disciple Blogs — Disciple of INDYCAR @ 2:24 am

Josh Duhamel. Not Sully. Not Mario on the 40th anniversary of his lone 500 win. Not a military hero. Josh Duhamel. Who?

jdHe has been in the soap opera ‘All My Children’ and the prime show ‘Las Vegas.’ He’s also married to Fergie.

The plot is thicker. He’s driving the new Camaro, which juuussssstttt happens to be in the new ‘Transformers’ movie, which Josh is also in.

I give IMS credit. They’ve whored the task out good, and you really can’t fault them for pandering to the lowest common denominator. They want to sell tickets after all.

Still, the traditionalist in me would have preferred Sully or Mario or some other noteworthy person of substance.

  1. Want to sell tickets after all? Why would IMS need a gimick pace car driver to sell tickets the the great indy 500 during the centennial era?
Editor’s note: ‘Gimmick’ is spelled with not one, but two ‘m’s.’ You’re welcome. Props for getting ‘centennial’ correct.

  2. I don’t mind it too much–as long they get some publicity. The WWII planes flying over might be cool also. not sure what the tie-in with dickie vitale is though.

  3. This choice appeals to an untapped market. The kids that will buy the hotwheels Indy Cars in the stores will connect with this guy.

It does not thrill me, but I’m going to be there any way.

  4. This pace car driver selection is the exact reason open wheel is in the shape it’s in today. The Hulman George family has no clue what they are doing. Keep licking the boots Defender, they actually like that.
Editor’s note: Seriously, do you understand how consistently stupid you sound?
