The Indy Sales Pitch Just In Time for the Holidays

Filed under: The Disciple Blogs — Disciple of INDYCAR @ 1:04 am

IMS has discovered a more consistent and aggressive marketing posture these days. All of the members of my family and circle of friends have had tickets to Indy for years, and we renew them the day after the race every year. Perhaps we should re-think that strategy.

The folks at the speedway sent me what looked like a pretty cool Christmas card in the mail, but when I opened ‘er up it was a sales pitch for:

-tickets to the Indianapolis 500

-tickets to the Brickyard 400

-tickets to the MotoGP

I have also been receiving sales pitch e-mails. Each one offers more incentives to buy more tickets or stuff, like pieces of the old bricks. Why would I not receive those things simply by being a consistently loyal customer?

At any rate, kudos to the marketing staff for getting the word out. FYI, here is what will make me spend more money:

-Bring back Formula One.

-Sell me a single day ticket to the motorcycle events.

-Make the regular retail prices on merchandise realistic.

Here is what will make more people buy tickets:

-Get a new car and encourage participation by multiple manufacturers.

-Stop bagging ovals.

-Encourage participation by more drivers and teams people actually care about.

I wish racing season would get here.

  1. Well, the new car news is breaking. Sounds cool, I’d just be a little worried that in the end it won’t race well, but we need something differernt. Sadly, Indycar is looking at a Boston and Baltimore Street course, despite Loudon, or even New Jersey Motorsports park and Lime Rock near by.

  2. In 2010 the MotoGP reserved seats are for race day only. My tickets actually went DOWN for next year. They were $125 each but are now $90 for race day plus $20 more for general admission for both Friday and Saturday. So I received a nice $30 credit from the speedway. I have two tickets at the top between the oval turns one and two. My wife and I would never think of just going for raceday. It is worth the vacation day to be there Friday and again on Saturday. The best part is dropping the kids off and saying “Have fun in school today, we are going to the track”

  3. The IMS and IRL are becomming more hardened to deal with today’s world. For instance, there was not a word on the IRL site about Danica’s NASCAR annoucement. In the past, the more complacent IMS and IRL would have had it on their page, Just like Tony Stewart was in the past.

I think this shows a more agressive and close to the vest operation from 16th and Georgetown. Suddenly we see DE Silvestro testing an Indy Car,,, and she’s fast. She could steal Danica’s IndyCar queen status. Things that make you go hummmmmmm

Editors Note: Should anyone actually enjoy some idiot cart fan pretending to be illiterate and a fan of Indy Racing, the original concept creator can be found at http://www.bigirlfan.com/. It was a funny idea for a few months in the late 1990’s, but one is/was certainly enough. You’re welcome.

  5. Defender, I’m not convinced this plagiarist isn’t illiterate, because they fit the mold of so many from that bunch. But yes, they should come up with something original for a change. Next.
