IZOD Indy Car Race Gets Promoted!

Filed under: The Disciple Blogs — Disciple of INDYCAR @ 12:47 pm

In the monthly Southwest Airlines magazine there is a feature article about the city of Birmingham. We already know the state of Alabama is a motorsports hotbed, most famous for NASCAR’s ‘big one’ track, Talladega. George Barber has constructed the ‘Augusta’ of road courses outside Birmingham (Leeds, actually) and the Indy Car test last April drew thousands each day.

Naturally, a race was pursued and is now scheduled. The Barber folks are actually PROMOTING it. There is a full page ad for the Indy Grand Prix at the track this spring featuring the mug of Scott Dixon, who just about gave the mayor of Birmingham a heart attack last spring after a few quick trips around the track in a souped up Honda Odyssey. He looked more frightened over that than he did for his recent criminal charges.

Quick prediction: For a road course, that may be a good one, especially if they widened some corners. It is certainly picturesque, and the museum is a must-see thing of beauty.

See you there!

  1. Defender,

Thanks for the publicity. We are indeed promoting the IRL race at Barber. We are proud to have it.

One minor correction: While the town of Leeds is nearby, the Barber Motorsports Park is actually inside the city limits of Birmingham.

    Best regards,

  2. Wow…the Defender praising a ‘road course’? What is this world coming to?
