Steve Kornya of Orlando, Florida: This Sport Does Not Need You. Move On. Or At Least Grow Up.

Filed under: The Disciple Blogs — Disciple of INDYCAR @ 4:44 am

Robin Miller always includes either a smart alecky or sleazeball hate letter from some idiot who has the temerity to call him/herself a fan in his occasional mailbag deal on the Speed website. I have nothing but contempt for anyone who willfully tries to ruin the sport for everyone because they cannot have their own way. This week it is an idiot named Steve Kornya, whose juvenile rant begins with “My birthday this year fell on Indy 500 weekend. My wife wanted to surprise me. She got her hands on some tickets, had plane flights booked, and a place to stay found. And then she asked me if I wanted my birthday present to be a trip to the Indy 500. And I told her thanks, but I’ll pass. And we went to Seaworld. And I didn’t regret it. And it made me sad.”

It went downhill from there with the usual hater script that uses a lot of pointless, parroted, serial whining to basically say ‘make Indy like it was 15 years ago.’

I can hardly wait until ALL these idiots die off. None of them get it. Unfortunately, most of these idiots were not even teenagers when cart mutinied before killing itself. Twice. We got the point these idiots made the first 800 or 900 times they whined it. We got it. You liked cart.

Here is your reality:

-cart is dead. Twice. It is never coming back. Come to grips with that.

-Indy Car Racing is nothing without Indy.

-The person who is the object of your idiotic hate is out of the picture.

-The new leader is making it more like cart used to be.

What is it going to take to get such idiots to either shut the hell up and work in POSITIVE, adult ways to affect the future evolution of the sport or stop nailing themselves to crosses in public? The sport always evolves. Anyone who has followed it over decades knows that. If that cannot be accepted why don’t these ’people’ just move on?

These idiots do not deserve to be called fans because they have very little actual understanding of the sport. I know Robin Miller is a sh!t disturber, but come on. Leave the hateful rhetoric to the hate sites.

  1. I doubt some of these people were ever fans. Robin needs to start throwing this stuff back in their faces as he seems to be moving on as well.

The idiotic rant of not going to the 500 is purified, condensed stupidity. People like this are more and more becoming true versions on the “nowhere man”.

  2. Why Robin Miller ever “interviewed” this guy at all is anybody’s guess. Maybe Robin is “moving on”, but I have my doubts. He seems to have had this barely-dorment resentment against open-wheel racing all along, maybe because fifteen or twenty years ago he was roughed-up by A. J. Foyt while trying to interview him. Well, an “in-your-face” style of interviewing of a driver will do that. This Kornya guy is simply an extension of Robin Miller.

  3. I truely feel sorry for Mrs Kornya. After all the effort, she must have felt like a fool.

  4. robin miller is very knowledgeable about open-wheel racing. unfortunately, he’s stuck in the 80’s and openly encourages this type of rhetoric from people who get their kicks from being negative . I’ve tried in the past to read his Speed column, but it is just too frustrating and bitter for me to stomach. so I stopped reading it. it was easy.

  6. Dear Defender:

Perhaps a long, sober look in the mirror would do you some good…perhaps you are the ‘hater’ that you rant on and on about on this blog…I continue to read your blog to enjoy your passion and commitment to our beloved sport but rather than focus on the positives, such as your long and distinguished history at the Indy 500 and the good news that flows from the regime of Ropin’ Randy (such as new engine, chassis and event news on a rolling basis, after years of stagnation and waste), you insist on bashing us devoted American open-wheel fans, such as myself, calling us ‘idiots…remember that we supported not one but both series, yes, I watched and attended both CART/Champ Car and IRL events across the country…and I still do…maybe if you toned down the hatred and focused on the good things that we have to look forward to, especially the hope of having NBC broadcast races on national TV, we can move away from the destructive and negative events of the last fifteen years…while I will NEVER forgive buffoon TG for squandering and neglecting our Open Wheel heritage, he is now out of the picture and we have a new leader to direct us out of the woods and into the light…

Editor’s Note: Tony haters rarely have any real understanding of the sport they say the are passionate about and usually do not have a clue about the 500. Being passionate about one brief period of evolution while subverting others displays an incredible lack of sportsmanship and I will always have nothing but contempt for such people. The idiot who wrote that letter is, I am betting, a liar. The script is way too common. If he was not a hypocrite his public self crucifixion would not have been foisted. The best course of action for anyone who fancies him/herself a racing fan is to shut the f$#@ up about a cart past and work in positive ways toward the future. It is not that difficult, and is a mature thing for adults to do. IMHO. I do not consider myself a hater, but I hate when people walk into my living room and drop a loose deuce simply to try and make a weak point that no longer even matters.

  7. I think I would be careful when mentioning that CART has died twice and it’s not coming back, I see some little glimmers of hope for CART followers with the new engine package, two or more chassis, turbo powered, more left & right turn racing along with more short ovals on the horizon

  8. Gee, Defender, thanks for more negativity…perhaps it was your money that I spent attending the Saint Petersburg, Texas and the upcoming Kentucky and my home race at Homestead…but now, it was my hard earned money, cash that I could have spent on NASCAR, NHRA or USAC events but I choose to support this series the same way you do…perhaps you are the fool that continually tries to alienate us with your constant diatribes against us fans who rooted for both series during the long and pointless war…regardless of your gutless reaction, I will continue to support American Open Wheel racing by buying tickets and traveling the country to attend in person and to watch on Versus or wherever the IRL ends up on TV (yes, it is still the IRL, the winner of Mr. TG’s war)…and I will continue to ridicule and denounce TG as the arrogant tool who set our sport back a decade with his incompetence and hubris.

Editor’s Note: Your enthusiasm for the sport is appreciated. I wish everyone spent as much as you do. Ridiculing and denouncing Tony George is pretty silly though. I have no time for people who take that stupid, pointless path nor for anyone who follows the script that childish idiot from Orlando parroted. I want real racing fans supporting my favorite sport. Not bitchy old women who whine about pointless nonsense years after the fact. That does not move the sport forward.
