Upside of Indy Car Lack of Popularity: NASCAR Gets Skewered in Funny Ways

Filed under: The Disciple Blogs — Disciple of INDYCAR @ 2:11 am

Many in the NASCAR nation are filled with angst over the portrayal of NASCAR participants and fans on South Park, a cartoon, on Wednesday. Personally, I thought it was funny in a puerile way. What is not to love? Exploitation of the stereotypes is always entertaining, particularly in an overly PC world.

The stereotype exploited what many actually believe: That NASCAR fans and participants are:

  1. Poor
  2. Stupid

How did cartman (ironically funny in and of itself) propose to get that way? Give away his $52 piggy bank, then ingest large quantities of Vagisil to get stupid. In between then and the end, the show managed to skewer all the big name drivers, kill lots of fans, kill Danica and have Vagisil sponsorship that looked suspiciously like Valvoline.

Believe it or not there are some NASCAR fans who are actually angry, many because Danica was again elevated dishonestly to ‘NASCAR driver.’

Had this parody occurred with Indy Car the idiots would be all over it. I have not seen South Park in a while, but it’s still kind of funny. Catch it if you can.

  2. Who cares what a bunch of losers in NY and LA think. South park is trash anyway.

I have met these kinds of people. If they follow auto racing at all, they follow F-1 because is is so “European”. They look down on Indycar just as much as Nascar. It’s what those hicks do in flyover country. So uncouth. Glad we are not like them. Well, time to get little Johnny to soccer practice. It’s so European.

I think its Indy car fans who should be angry with Danica. But I digress.

The real idiots are the ones wasting time in line to watch a Broadway show.

  3. Funnier yet, there is a small population of IRL followers(really small by all measures) that somehow beleive that they are opereating at a higher intellectual level compared to the average nascar fan. These people should check the interwebs, as they will witness that they have been laughed at mercilessly for roughly the last 15 years. who are those doing the laughing?.. just those folks no longer in attendance of AOW.

  5. lame show. figures you would be attracted to it.

the irl association has already killed off danica….southpark needs to be a little more original.

thankfully the irl has died this year as well, in front of several hundred of Miami’s finest homeless…..not with a bang, but rather a whimper.

    with thanks to my mentor Thomas Stearns Eliot;

    “We are the hollow men
    We are the stuffed men
    Leaning together
    Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!
    Our dried voices, when
    We whisper together
    Are quiet and meaningless
    As wind in dry grass
Or rats’ feet over broken glass
    In our dry cellar

Shape without form, shade without colour,
    Paralysed force, gesture without motion;

    Those who have crossed
With direct eyes, to death’s other Kingdom
Remember us — if at all — not as lost
    Violent souls, but only
    As the hollow men
    The stuffed men.

This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper”

  6. Matt Stone and Trey Parker are from colorado, not new york or la. They’ve skewered everyone at some point over the last thirteen years. Don’t be so defensive. I’ve never understood the whole we’re better than they are because they think they’re so much better than us, and we’re just not like that so we’re better than they are and the things they like. I live in southern Indiana and there’s countless soccer fields in my hometown. It might just be because kids enjoy soccer.
