IZOD IndyCar Series Scoreboard: Two New American Drivers With Sponsorship! Thanks, Chip.

Filed under: The Disciple Blogs — Disciple of INDYCAR @ 4:54 pm

Love him or hate him, Chip Ganassi has done more for Indy Car racing than most. He takes action. Today he added two more cars to the Indy Car count, and they will be driven by two Americans.

Graham Rahal will drive the #38 Service Central machine (no word on what will happen to Jay Howard, who had a deal with them last season) and Charlie Kimball will carry the #83 with sponsorship from the pharmaceutical company that provides his insulin, Novo Nordisk.

The team will be operated independently of his Target team, and will be housed in the shops of legendary drag racer Don Prudhomme, who is the landlord. All parties seem happy, glowing openly about all the opportunity being created by the IZOD IndyCar Series.

Would it not be great if other owners took as much initiative? The sport needs teams like Vision, Rahal-Letterman and others. Hopefully they will begin figure out what it takes to construct quality sponsorship and not have to sell assets and sit on the sideline.

Four Ganassi cars on the track probably means the victory stranglehold by Chip and Penske will probably continue, but perhaps new blood will win some races. Congratulations to Ganassi, Graham and Charlie!

  1. i find it interesting that defender comes full circle and becomes exactly what he loathes. what a xenophobic hypocrite….but we all knew that, didn’t we? the irl was based upon hypocrisy….the remaining few that mindlessly follow must take some sort of anton gOrge hulman hypocratic oath….or is it a hypoCARTic oath. you have become what you professed to hate….kinda like defender’s blog becoming censoring into a trackforum lite, if you will. it seems that the last two postings i made in previous days, ole D…the postertard of hypocrisy himself…saw fit to filter/delete them just like condres brownshirts at the lockstep forum. when you stand on a soapbox and preach ole D, you better be able to catch the eggs thrown at you….lest you will have egg on yer face.cue the ” viagra, nigerian, spam excuse lie in 3……2……….1.
Like your hypocrite former irl song stroker johnny cooper mellonhead, who loudly proclaimed his disdain for corporate america using his work, and then turned around and sold a song to the irhell and then also sold out to chevrolet, once said:”If I see through it now but I didn’t at first the hypocrites made it worse and worse”

Editor’s Note: Today’s example of illiteracy is brought to you as a public service by http://www.literacydirectory.org. Get help kid. It is right here for the taking. You’re welcome.

  2. Just wondering if this Kimball kid is related to Hank Kimball over in Hooterville Indiana? Boy o boy would that be great! Think of the synergy between the two. Maybe Sam Drucker could kick in with some sponsership. Might even be room on the team for Eb and that Arnold Ziffel kid. Endless possibilities! That might just draw the farm kids in also that we think might save the IRL.

Editor’s Note: Here is another trait I have notice about the mostly illiterate haters…when lots of good news occurs and they can’t think of any taunt to throw out there, they’ll just take the stupid route like our little obsessed Canadian friend here. Is that not the cutest thing you’ve ever seen?

  3. I have a legitimate grievance, or perhaps concern is the more appropriate word, to lodge. My only concern with this good news, is will this team be around in a year? Somehow I can’t see Chip buying for teams worth of brand new equipment next year.

  4. Also, if Kanaan doesn’t have a ride next year, they’ll still have a hard time getting my eyes on the tv.

  5. It’s great news to keep Graham Rahal ANYWHERE in the IndyCar series, but I agree with Mutt; this series will lose some credibility without Tony Kanaan, and it wouldn’t be the same without Dan Wheldon, either. Or Paul Tracy, or Tomas Scheckter, or others we can think of, given the chance.

  6. bwahahahaha!!!! this is ride buying at it’s finest. just happens to be by two amuuuuricans to keep all the xenophobes happy. if this was chip’s deal alone they’d be in his shop…regardless of space…using his guys…not picking up castoffs, and they’d have the target name emblazoned. prudhommes shop was empty!!! it was a local government throw in, freebie….tax abatements gone baaaaaad. (like government cheese handouts for an irl fan – to help the bootlickers comprende) there is NO economic development here…..just the irl spooging up more county and state tax dollars. H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-T-E-S. ole chip took the state $$ incentives and the service $$$ and the pharmaceutical $$$ right to his bank… It’s Game time blog-tards…..I’ll take famous and talented diabetic racers for $1000 Alex. Who is Charlie Kimball?BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT. WRONG!!!!!!The correct answer is “Who is Conor Daly, who does NOT race in the irhell”First penske makes a passive aggressive takeover and now CG flexes his wallet muscles. Jay howard gets the IRL royal flush!!!! see ya dennis the menace lookin gel boy!!!!Who’s your baby now!!!!!
    CART III redux.

Editor’s Note: Today’s lesson in jealous, clueless, illiterate stupidity is brought to by the age of three years old. That’s right. THREE years old. Represented perfectly, I might add, by the obsessed child who graciously took the time to share its retardation with adults. Is that not just the most precious thing you have ever seen? And just in time for the holidays, too.

  7. While it’s great that there will be two more cars on the grid for next year, I think it’s a stretch to give Ganassi credit for ‘taking action’ as you put it. Just wondering, what action did he take, aside from picking up the phone?

Rahal brings money from Service Central, Kimball brings money from Novo Nordisk and his personal doabetes-related sponsors. While they’re not Venezuelan, and can actually drive the car, they’re still essentially ride buyers. It’s not like Chip went out, found a sponsor, and decided ‘I’m going to give a ride to a good young American driver for the benefit of the series.’; they came to him, showed him the checkbook balance, and they did the deal. No different than Mike Conway, Mario Romancini, Mario Moraes, Hideki Mutoh (with the Dream Money), or Milka. Only difference is these kids are Americans, and the drive they’re buying will likely be at the front of the field than at the back.

That being said, I AM glad Chip picked up the phone. I am glad that Kid Rahal will have a quality seat for next year, even though he had to find the sponsor to get it. Since Danicant seems bound for NASCAR, and Marco seems found for a life of strippers, Charlie Sheen’s seconds, and underachievement, Rahal and RHR are likely going to be the American face of the series; and hopefully because of their skill on the track.
